September 21st 2014. A four hour drive, no motorways, just winding A roads, villages, small towns, sheep, lots and lots of sheep.
The main road points to a right turn. A three and a half mile single track road which goes up and up and up and up. How much further? Eye opening drops on both sides, please don't let a car come the other way!!! We do meet two cars on the whole ascent. We each politely give way to one another onto the side verges. Then over two cattle grids, many more sheep, a few cattle and suddenly, here we are! Then the turning to Tallinn, and a triangular shaped cottage attached to a farmhouse in the middle of the mountains, which is to be our hideaway for a week.It really is a triangular shaped cottage, two rooms, a kitchen/diner and an en suite bedroom. Cosy is very apt. The views are spectacular, Harlech Bay and Portmeirion in the distance, a lake, an estuary, and mountain range after mountain range. A walkers' paradise.
It is completely silent. A very occasional bleat from a sheep. The sound of a land rover returning to the working farm. Apart from that, peace, perfect peace. No street lights and no other people in sight. A very welcome cup of tea is taken in the grounds of the cottage admiring the fantastic views.
Triangle Cottage, Tallin Farm
The roof is made of slate and the walls are made of stone. Who lived here years ago? Admittedly, the cottage now has mod cons including electricity and running mains water and dare I say, internet access! But I don't need to be online here all the time. I need to be outside. Pure mountain air, no pollution, the nearest shop half an hours' drive away.
We have brought our own supplies. A few bottles of wine and some meal deals and produce from a certain well known shop will be fine for this week.
No looking at watches, eat when hungry, bed when tired. This is to be a RELAXATION week.
Tomorrow, a steam train ride is being taken.
The weather is unpredictable here. We have brilliant sunshine today, what will the rest of the week bring? I am going to write about each day of our holiday over the coming week.
