Where I live in Hereford, it is good to see some new independent shops and restaurants opening that are not part of a national chain. Let's hope that they can be supported by the public and are able to thrive in today's harsh economic climate.
I keep thinking about my childhood games and wonder if are they still being played. Judging by the games on sale online and in the shops, YES is the resounding cry!
I don't know about you, but it seems that every year there are additional pressures for everyone. Do we bring this on ourselves unnecessarily? I've been asking people for their own personal tips to make Christmas stress free and I'm going to list some of them! They are in no particular order.
Florists, one of the success stories on the High Street or online. Flowers are so well received for all occasions. Happy or sad, they brighten up ones day and can ease the pain or make one jump for joy. Flowers are so good for mental and physical well being, don't you think?
A tribute to our motorhome:
Hello. My name is Bertha, and I am nearly 14 years old. I don't have parents, but have lived with carers since I was very young. My most outstanding features are my large eyes, which sometimes shine so much I've heard people call me "Bright Eyes". I rather like that.
Good morning Jan, I see you work for the Premier chain. Winners 2013 UK CTP Best Promotional & Best Value Convenience Retailer. Best Store Staff & Customer Service Retailer. All those titles add up to quite an achievement! Well done to Premier!
When you think of the USA, which locations immediately spring to mind? New York City, Florida, California, Las Vegas? Yes, I think of all those, too! What about Minnesota? When my daughter told me she was moving there, my first reaction was – where the hell is Minnesota?
Last week, I decided that I wouldn't go to a supermarket. Why? I didn't want to spend two hours of my time sitting in traffic and then queuing to park in the supermarket car park.I didn't want to walk up and down the aisles picking up the two for one offers that I don't really need or will use.
I can picture it now: a hot summer holiday in 1972, and my mother and I are crossing a bridge to get into town when suddenly she stops and points downwards to the river. 'Look,' she says. 'That's Ratty out of The Wind in the Willows.' I lean on the stone parapet and see, to my delight, a fat water vole diving about and showing off. He is about the size of a guinea pig and his fur is the colour of glossy chocolate. He doesn't seem remotely bothered that we are near. After a minute of watching him perform, however, Mum says we have to go. I refuse to budge. She is surprised. I'm only 8 and normally I do as I'm told. But I just can't leave the vole. In the end, my mother gives up and walks off and I get another quarter of an hour of uninterrupted viewing. By the time she comes back to collect me, I've fallen in love.
I expect many of you will have heard of Hotter shoes. Last week, I was invited to talk to Jan Payton, the manager of my local branch in Hereford. After trading for just over a year here, the shop goes from strength to strength.
A great easy summer salad to brighten up your day.
Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do. How many of us have just hummed that whilst reading the sentence?!
