LAS FALLAS [Part 1] - Hide Your Blushes, It’s Pronounced ‘fy-yas’ A Fantastic Spanish Fiesta Held In Valencia Spain
SO WHAT IS THIS FALLAS THING?
Owning our own Spanish property has opened up a new, wonderful life for us that we had no idea existed. It is nothing at all like being on holiday; it is a hundred times more rewarding.
In 1488 Ursula Sontheil was born to her unwed, fifteen year old mother, Agatha. Despite being brought before the authorities of the time, she refused to name the father.
As a professional jazz musician, I often get a hollow laugh from fellow musos when I say I’m going off to do a Saga jazz holiday. There’s an illusion among some of my colleagues in this trade: Despite being themselves “of a certain age” and well-prone to riotous living, they mistakenly believe that Saga customers must be of a distinctly staid disposition. Wrong!
Beningbrough Hall is just one of many places I have visited in North Yorkshire that has fed my imagination for the plots of my novellas.
At last we take the plunge Right now, I left you in Spain in the town of Nerja five years ago. Not a fast mover me …you’ve probably gathered.
The first article in this series (Have you ever thought you’d like to live part of the year in Spain) left you in the 1980's with Phil Collins; hope you had a good time. ☺

Most of us don't have much idea about where the products we buy come from.
50 or 60 years ago, the waters of the Thames Estuary were busy with coastal shipping - barges, coasters and larger ships, but today less a handful of vessels trade here.

Have you ever dreamed of owning your own little Spanish property where you could escape the worst of the English winter whenever you wanted?
I’m back in good old England for a short time and being January it’s wassailing time in the South West. If you’ve never been wassailing ‘you sure have missed a great night out’ so let me tell you all about it …have you got your glass of cider ready?
The UK may be knee deep in the post Christmas bargain sales but it doesn’t mean that the whole world has gone quite so mad.
The other day we visited Fariones Hotel in Lanzarote, outside the entrance was a beautiful nativity scene. This time of the year these scenes are found throughout the island.
I’m in Spain right now for two reasons – the warmer weather and I wanted to miss the frantic Christmas build up that takes over almost every shop in the UK from September onwards. We bought our little house here about eight or nine years ago and there’s never been a single day that I regretted spending our hard earned savings in that way.
I love comfort food, so I have to take a fast walk every day to keep my weight down. Living in ancient oak woodlands on the border between England and Wales makes this easy.
I live in Saltaire, near Bradford in West Yorkshire. At first sight, you might think my northern town has little in common with the Renaissance city of Lyon in France. By contrast, Saltaire is a small Victorian mill town by a canal, on the edge of the moors, with a typically northern English climate of cold winds and bleak grey skies.
A glorious autumn day, with unexpected blue skies, white fluffy clouds and warm sunshine was just perfect to pay a visit to the Woodhorn Museum, near Ashington,to see the ‘Weeping Window’ of Poppies that had been installed by an army of volunteers.

The last few Saturday afternoons have been spent at beer festivals at pubs relatively local to us. Very little can beat an afternoon sitting in a beautiful beer garden, soaking up the summer sunshine.

Incredibly, on our doorstep are one or two claims to fame that I had no idea about - the Chase Distillery is Britain’s first and ONLY single estate distillery in the UK and they have the largest rectifying column in Europe and maybe even the world!

I have just come back from a short break in Snowdonia. This was a 60th birthday treat from my partner, Derek. He chose Beech Bank B and B as our accommodation from a number of various hotels, guest houses and B and B's listed online.
The last time I was here for a chat back in April of 2014, I told you about moving four generations of my family from Bristol to Cornwall. I thought I'd catch you up on what I have been up to since then.
