 Norman golf

My story actually starts from last year when four friends decided that it would be nice to go away for a weekend stay in a hotel and play golf. Something I had never done when Ellie was alive. We generally play together at our own club so it made sense to go away together.

Last year was a success so we decided to do the same again. We had several venues to choose from but it was actually my hairdresser that persuaded me that Dorset Golf and Country Club was the place to go. One of the guys booked it up and the dates were set.

Then the whole thing hinged on whether I could get Sadie booked in with the lovely lady who looks after her. Fingers nervously tapped her number and to my relief she was able to take Sadie on the dates I wanted.

So all was done just the wait now for the day to come around

August 30th seemed an age coming but finally it arrived. The day started about 6am getting all my golf stuff and clothing together ready to load into the car. Sadie's bed and food for the three days were put in, I secured her in the front seat and dropped her off at Silvia's about fifteen minutes away. Silvia opened the gate and Sadie ran off to play with the other dogs, no attention to me, probably pleased to get away from me for a few days.

Back home I picked up all my gear, secured the house and set off to pick up my friend who was travelling with me

I sparked up Sally Sat-Nav and we were soon heading west. We stopped half way for a coffee and in no time at all Sally was saying you have arrived at your destination. We waited for the others to arrive went and booked in. We couldn't get into the rooms before 2pm so we got our gear out and played 18 holes.

Luxury log cabins

When we came back all was ready and we drove down the road a bit to our lodge. What met me left me breathless, our own log cabin, it was fabulous. There were four bathrooms, sleeping for eight, all fully self contained and even a sauna!

Fabulous interiors

It was soon time for dinner and more surprises - it was fabulous. Breakfast was the usual buffet style eat as much as you can and we pondered what we wanted for dinner that evening. The car took us back to the lodge where we opened a few bottles and had a great night.

The next day was the same and all too soon our short trip was drawing to a close

We came away from there vowing that we would return. The journey from Bere Regis was soon swallowed up, I dropped my pal off and was pulling up at my front door. There was a strange emptiness as Sadie was staying with Silvia until th following morning.

Today I still marvel at the standard of the accomodation and the food and I would have no hesitation in recommending Dorset Golf and Country Club to anyone. You do not have to be a golfer to be able to visit.
