I have been sent the latest Shark Powered Lift-Away with DuoClean NV800UKT vacuum to evaluate and would like to share my findings with you all.

It is a while since I have used a corded vacuum. Let me start by quoting a few lines from the Shark website about the NV800UKT:-

'The ingenious combination of two innovative technologies brings you the Shark Powered Lift-Away with Duo Clean. Engineered to save you both time and effort whilst delivering the incredible cleaning performance and satisfying results only found in Shark Products.

The first innovation is Duo Clean Technology. Unlike conventional vacuum cleaners that use one brush bar, DuoClean gives you 2 brush rolls working in unison to remove 3 different types of dirt from your floors and carpets: Large, small and stuck on particles. That’s Triple Particle Cleaning.'

That all sounds rather exciting! As you can see from the three photos below, the box details on the outside entice you to try this vacuum out asap!

Parts taken from box ready for easy assembly

Once the vacuum was assembled, I looked at the various descriptions of each device in the well documented instruction booklet. The diagrams are clear and the instructions are straightforward and comprehensive.

Clearly labelled power ratings

The first thing that caught my eye was the label stating a 5 year guarantee. Also on the label were the different ratings of power consumed for each type of cleaning brush, something I had not come across before.

I have first go!

Gosh, this is a beast!

SO POWERFUL! I tried the vacuum on minimum suction first on the rug and increased to maximum suction on the main carpet in my lounge. When the vacuum is switched on, there are headlights on the front to guide you. This is a great feature especially if vision may be a problem for some. With 850 watts of power, the debris and dust came away easily. I also love the swivel steering which collects more dust and particles of dirt than my corded vacuum that I owned in the past.

Easy to reach and clean curtains

Derek tried out the extending handle and soft upholstery brush for the curtains whilst holding the easily lifted out pod. This made light work of the curtains and was very effective.

After using the vacuum and carrying the pod to clean under the tables and chairs, Derek was ready to try the smaller brush head to reach under crevices and hard to reach areas and this was very practical and easy to manage.

Roller easily removed to clean

The whole house took around thirty minutes to vacuum.

So, what are my overall thoughts? Excellent cleaning on both hard floors and carpets. There are two washable filters included. The vacuum is very well designed and built to a high standard. My only slight niggle is that the hose bracket on the handle is not as stable as it could be and sometimes the hose comes away on its own. With the DuoClean NV800UKT weighing 6.1kg, it may be rather heavy for the older person if they have dexterity or mobility problems. If you do have help with the housework, I am sure an adult who is used to a heavier vacuum will be really pleased with the performance and cleaning.

Priced at £369.99, the NV800UKT is available to order directly from the Shark website. There are also many other models to look at and useful tips and advice on the website which members may care to view.
