I am delighted to be writing my third article for Fentimans. Those of you who know me, will have seen me posting Fentimans Ginger Beer on FB and Twitter as a favourite drink of mine. Now I have the pleasure of testing Fentimans mixers.
Fentimans has been made since 1905. Here is an extract here from their website. 'In 1905, Thomas Fentiman, an iron puddler from Cleckheaton, England was approached by a fellow tradesman for a loan. A deal was struck and a recipe for botanically brewed ginger beer was provided as security. The loan was never repaid so Thomas became the owner of the unique recipe. The business is still in the Fentimans family and is owned by the Great Grandson of Thomas Fentiman and we still make our beverages by the time honoured method of botanically brewing the finest natural ingredients.'
Trying a light tonic water mixer with Cinzano!
When I was younger, Martini and Cinzano used to be favourite drinks of mine and back then I added lemonade to each. My late mother had an unopened bottle of Cinzano in her cupboard. She used to enjoy it with a certain brand of SSSch tonic water. I have a bottle of light tonic water and have added it to my Cinzano. So delicate and tasting of citrus, this blends perfectly without being as fizzy as the other brand make!! I also tried this tonic water on its own and certainly prefer it to any other I have tasted.
Derek testing herbal tonic water- a new addition to the mixers range
If I'm honest, I did not think that Derek would pass many comments on this 'different' type of tonic water, but he really enthused about it and said he could really enjoy this on a night out when no alcohol would be permitted due to driving. Really herby and not sweet, a lovely refreshing drink. Limes came through on his tastebuds.
Larkin LOVES both these flavours!!
My next door neighbours have a dog called Larkin who likes to share EVERYTHING with his devoted owners Chris and Steve. They each tried Rose Lemonade and Victorian Lemonade and both agreed these lemonades 'knock spots off other leading brands.' Lemons and tastes of rose oil comes through on the palate along with hints of ginger. Larkin on the other hand, lapped up both his samples in about five seconds. Judging by his expression, he was not disappointed!!
Tis the season to be jolly and Steve couldn't resist taking these photos!
Time to move on to the adults again! Fentimans ginger ale mixes really well with a good brandy. Pam tried this combination and said she could taste hints of orange as well as ginger and will certainly be buying this brand in the future. The other makes pale in comparison.
Pam adding ginger ale to her brandy
As a Fentimans ginger beer 'addict', I only ever drink this on its own. No ice, just striaght after being refrigerated for about two hours. I am so pleased to see this product in more and more pubs and restaurants. I do enjoy alcohol, but would happily go out for the evening and be a designated driver providing this was on sale!!
My son James on the right with his good friend Richard. James has Curiosity Cola and Richard has Victorian Lemonade
I went to Birmingham for the day last Sunday to visit my son and his fiancé and took a couple of mixers with me for them to have with Bacardi. James and his friend Richard both tried them first. Each person sampled the drinks before the three of them mixed their Fentimans with Bacardi. All agreed that the taste and flavour of their respective drinks certainly made for an excellent combination. Again, like Chris and Steve earlier, Richard LOVED the lemonade and is going to be buying some ready for New Years Eve celebrations.
Derek and his Saturday afternoon tipple - a well known whisky and Fentimans Ginger Beer, equal measures. Perfection!
Fentimans is up there with the very best of soft drinks. and can be found in many farm shops, delicatessens, restaurants, cafes, bars, supermarkets, convenience stores and other retailers worldwide.
I for one will always ask for this brand. Why not try for yourself? With so many different and unique flavours, you won't be disappointed! With or without alcohol, they make a delicious alternative to many of the 'sweet' non alcoholic drinks sold.
Merry Christmas and a very Happy Fentimans New Year!
