Rosemary Tippett

Hi my name is Rosemary. I came to Pembrokeshire almost thirty years ago with the idea of organising craft and interest holidays, but somehow I got sidetracked and ended up organising adult education classes for Pembrokeshire County Council.

Lovely patio to sit and chat with others

I loved my job. I was able to indulge my passions and met some very interesting people along the way. However it did not leave much time to organise anything else.

Having retired I now want to realise the dream I had all those years ago and together with some of my former colleagues have organised a series of residential craft and interest workshops.

One of these colleagues is Judith Barrow, a contributor to Oapschat. Judith has an MA in Creative Writing, a BA degree and a diploma in drama and script writing. She works as a tutor in Creative Writing for Pembrokeshire County Council and is very enthusiastic about this venture. I do hope some of your members will be able to attend one of the workshops in this lovely area of Pembrokeshire.

Rosemary Tippett Maudsley
Who Am I?

Rosemary hails from Pontlottyn in the Rhymney Valley, but she left at 19 to go to college in London, where she trained as a teacher and a youth worker. The early years of her career were spent working in Croydon and Reading before taking up a post in Hounslow that also involved Adult Education. At the time she knew nothing about adult education but she was a quick learner! At 39 the ‘hiraeth’ was too great and she decided to return to Wales, this time travelling further west, to Pembrokeshire.

She bought a guest house and the idea was to eventually open it as an activity centre, but a job opportunity came up...a once in a lifetime opportunity (the previous incumbent had been there for 25 years) organising adult education and youth work in the Tenby area. Over the years the job emphasis changed, the youth work was dropped and the focus was adult education but she too stuck it out for over 25years! It was a job she loved and she met some very talented professionals and craftspeople along the way.

Having recently retired she wants to realise that dream she has carried for almost thirty years and so Pembrokeshire Craft and Interest Holidays has been born. Using the skills and talent of local artisans she wants to offer people a holiday with a difference, somewhere they can learn new skills or pursue their interests with like minded people in the beautiful surroundings of West Wales.
