Tuesday September 23rd
Today was to be a long drive around The Lleyn Peninsula. We were up early, the weather was not looking promising, dark clouds and the sun was not planning on showing its' face.
Never mind, we were here to walk and explore whatever the weather had in store for us!
First stop was Porthmadog and the station to look at the various steam trains on the platform. Derek was in his element, detailing all the various parts, age of trains etc etc.
Vale of Ffestniog
After a look around the excellent shop on the station, we had a well earned cuppa in a delightful cafe on the High Street. Our next stops were Pwllheli and Criccieth. My parents took their honeymoon in Pwllheli way back in 1947. We had lunch here in Wetherspoons (mainly so that I could catch up online with fellow Oapschatters!).
The weather was starting to turn decidely cold and drizzly, so back in the car and a drive to a beach we found by chance- Nefyn. And what a beach!
Nefyn Beach - Fabulous!
We had a long walk up and down this fantastic beach, then the rain decided to descend and the wind blow for all it was worth. So, rather wet and bedraggled, we reluctantly made our way back to the car. I LOVE the sea and could have stayed here for hours. It was completely deserted. By now, it was 4.30pm and DARK. Time to go back to our cottage and dry out!
N.B Porthmadog Station has recently had a £1.2 million facelift. Please take a look.
