Friday September 26th
We were up bright and early as today was the day we were treating ourselves big time! The rain had stopped but it was very misty and murky. We drove to Porthmadog to catch a train on the The Welsh Highland Railway.http://www.festrail.co.uk/ The train was called Welsh Pony. We had booked into a First Class carriage!
Living the High Life!
I don't travel by train very much as I have a fear of Public Transport, so this week was proving to be a challenge! But this was comfort and lots and lots of space and big windows to see out of. The journey began with a cup of tea served by a lovely cheerful waiter who asked us if we needed any information about anything. We couldn't think what to ask!
Two and a half hours of fantastic rugged mountain scenery and at midday, the sun appeared. We had arrived at our destination.
Majestic Caernarfon Castle.
Derek enjoying the sunshine in Caernarfon Square
Just over an hours stop in Caenarfon to walk around the square where the magnificent castle is situated and to eat our sandwiches.http://www.castlewales.com/caernarf.html
Caernarfon Castle in the sunshine.
We had a great return journey in the sunshine, arriving at 4.30 in Porthmadog. I had spent nearly six hours on a train and this was a personal best for me.
We drove back to our cottage and witnessed a glorious sunset.
Sunset at it's best.
A very satisfying and chilled out day.
