Blog Week 89

On Monday 31st October Norman Turner, veteran OAPSchatter arrived in Herefordshire for 5 days and began his stay by coming to Helen Vereker Singers choir practice on Monday evening.

I think he enjoyed our rousing renditions of songs old and new and he even joined in with a few including Halleluja and The Rose. We enjoyed having you with us Norman! The weather was not kind as it was very foggy, so quite a hairy journey back to Holme Lacy House Hotel.

Luckily Derek was on hand to be the lead car to make sure Norman drove back to his hotel safely!

Birthday cake made by Chris my lovely neighbour and an apple cake made by Margaret Joel

Tuesday dawned and November 1st was OAPSchat ’s 3rd birthday! I invited a few friends round for a rather boozy lunch and then a few more friends arrived in the afternoon for cake and Cava!

Sheila Holley gave a bottle of sparking wine and this was a great compliment to the fabulous tasting cakes from Margaret and Chris.

Mr Larkin taking a break outside!

The day passed by very quickly and everyone who came had a good time. Even Mr Larkin was allowed in! I would like to thank you all for celebrating with me.

Here's to the fourth year!!

Me talking to the owner of The Bridge cafe

On Wednesday Norman, Derek and I drove around the black and white villages of Herefordshire. We had a cuppa at The Bridge Cafe in Pembridge, then lunch at Ye Olde Salutation Inn in Weobley. Arriving back in Hereford around 4pm, we went for a walk around Tupsley Quarry before Norman headed back to the hotel for his evening meal.

Norman and Derek enjoying a drink at Ye Olde Salutation Inn in Weobley

Thursday saw Derek drive Norman to Shropshire and show him his ‘stomping ground’ (his words not mine!) They enjoyed themselves and had lunch at The Plough in Wistanstow.

The evening was spent at Holme Lacy House hotel where Norman treated Derek and I to an evening meal followed by entertainment which consisted of singers, a comedian and music from the musicals over the years.

Friday morning arrived and Norman drove home safely to Littlehampton. I hope he enjoyed his second visit to our lovely county and has taken some good memories back to share with his family and friends down south.
