 Nancy Glen

About 18.30 on Thursday 18 January a trawler, the Nancy Glenn from Tarbert, was fishing for prawns on Loch Fyne and unfortunately sank taking two local men down with it. Another was rescued.

We can see the site from our house and wondered what all the lights bobbing around on the Loch were doing. We now know it was all the vessels searching, three lifeboats two ferries and all the local fishing fleet plus the coastguard helicopter overhead continuously searched through the night.

The two men who are presumed to have gone down with the trawler had families who can see the site and wanted to bring them home. A fund raising page was set up to do just that. Over £200,000 was raised in a short time by local people. The families would have to pay to raise the boat from the seabed themselves. This coast was to be enormously expensive.

After much media coverage Scotland's First Minister stated in parliament that the government would contribute to the raising of the Nancy Glenn. Now our fund raising is for the families and there is no let up in the efforts to add to the total. Everything from soup and sandwich lunches, afternoon teas, dances and so on have been well supported indeed oversubscribed. The latest effort is a recording of a hauntingly beautiful song called Please Bring Our Boys Back Home. Silvio Gigante was responsible for the bringing the track together. It also features the local Loch Fyne Pipe Band and the Tarbert Academy school choir. Beatrice Catherine, a local singer is the vocalist.

The Vigil Candle

The song has reached number 1 on the Amazon playlist within 24 hours of its release and it is hoped as many people as possible will download the track for 99p. While the communities continue their efforts.

The candle that was lit at a vigil in the harbour will remain until the boys come home.
