 Poem Express

Derek Coles and Norman Turner

I came across this 'song' in the Daily Express last Saturday 12th March. Jennifer has kindly allowed me to share it with you. The lyrics trip along quite nicely to the suitably cheery tune of My Favourite Things from The Sound Of Music. One. two, three.....

Long hairs in nostrils and wrinkles on foreheads,
Losing your glasses and early off to bed.
Poor circulation that makes you feel cold,
These are the reasons we love getting old.

Youths call you grandma and not in a nice way,
Luckily you can't hear anything they say.
Care homes are pricey so your house is sold,
These are the reasons we love getting old.

Pensions are lousy and sex is a no-no,
Everyone thinking that you've lost your mojo.
Experts say drink must be strictly controlled,
These are the reasons we love being old.

Bus pass, free tv, the future is rosy,
Help with the heating to make you feel cosy.
But perks can be cancelled or just put on hold,
These are the reasons we love being old.

We're living so long that our health care's spread thinner,
Never mind dear here's your pills and a zimmer.
Be uncomplaining and do as you're told,
These are the reasons we love being old.

When the joints creak, when the brain goes,
When I'm feeling mad,
I simply remember I love getting old
And then I don't feel so bad.
