I expect many of you will have heard of Hotter shoes. Last week, I was invited to talk to Jan Payton, the manager of my local branch in Hereford. After trading for just over a year here, the shop goes from strength to strength.
Hotter Shoes was founded in Lancashire in 1959 and has diversified from slipper production to very stylish and fashionable shoes. Last year a record 1.3 million pairs were made and Hotter are now the biggest shoe manufacturer in the UK. As well as making shoes for everyday walking, Hotter also sells Gortex walking boots, handbags, and other accessories.
What came across to me when I was talking to Jan was the dedication and loyalty the staff have to their firm
Whilst ladies shoes are selling better than mens, the latter are catching up. There is a very loyal customer base. One lady came into the shop last month wearing a pair of shoes that she had purchased seven years ago. She asked Jan why they wouldn't wear out!! So for reliability and durability, that must take some beating. The lady in question did treat herself to a new pair.
There are always promotions in the shops and online
Sometimes, the offer is buy three pairs for the price of two. This can be taken up by more than one person, for example, why not take two friends with you and each buy a new pair of shoes or boots and you will all save! Slippers are a favourite purchase at this time of year, so you can also save money on those.
I came away feeling that the staff morale is very high and they obviously love the firm that they work for
Long may Hotter continue to grow and provide us with the stylish and comfortable footwear they design and sell.
