When my sons lived at home, they used to make smoothies. I have to confess I have never made one. I have bought smoothies, but they are all so sweet that I stopped buying them.

Our good friend and contribuor Kelly Florentia posted one of her homemade recipes on Facebook yesterday and has offered to share it with us. An ideal breakfast drink to kick start your day.

A handful of kale (raw)
half an apple
1 stick of pineapple
1 kiwi
juice of one orange made up to 250ml with water.
And whiz!

Ready to drink and enjoy!

Lots of comments were on Facebook and Kelly added some replies to friends queries:-

'You can add any liquid, depends on your taste. Coconut water is very healthy and sweetens the smoothie. I use coconut milk when I want something more creamy. Yes, I add seeds sometimes too. You can just put anything in.'

'Coconut water is great. I add it in mine too but sometimes add orange juice/water for a change.'

'You must try kale, it's very good for you. You can have it raw in smoothies, or you can boil, bake or throw in stir-fries.'

Many smoothie makers are available on the market. A good selection can be found on Amazon.
